Welcome to the Black Lion!
A charming 14th Century Public House nestled on the B184 Great Dunmow to Ongar Road, in High Roding. Originally a coaching inn where coaches travelling from London to Norwich would stop to allow travellers to freshen up and horses to be changed. Now, it is a country Public House with a warm atmosphere perfect for any occasion. Enjoy a refreshing beer in the summer or a hearty Sunday roast by the fire during colder months. Our evolving menu features a wide selection of locally sourced dishes, freshly prepared by our talented kitchen team, along with a variety of Guest Ales that change weekly. Join us for sports, fun events, and don’t miss our delightful afternoon tea with prosecco.

WHAT'S ON IN JANUARY?
Thursday 23rd January - Whisky / Wine Tasting for Burns Night
Join us for a whisky tasting evening! The evening will include a tasting of 6 whisky's and a whisky cocktail accompanied by Scottish nibbles. There will also be a guest singer during the evening. For those who do not drink whisky, we shall provide white/red wine. Whisky tasting - £50 per head, Wine - £35 per head. Please arrive at 7pm for a 7:30pm start.
Thursday 30th January - Quiz night
Join us for a fun quiz night hosted by Essex Hunt. Please arrive at 7pm for a 7:30pm start and get ready to test your knowledge. Tickets are just £10 per head, which includes a delicious cheese and ham platter. Plus, don't miss your chance to enter our exciting raffle!
